Marin leksikon er et samarbeidsinitiativ mellom CHAM - Senter for Humaniora i Portugal og Universitetsmuseet i Bergen og NIFU (Nordisk institutt for studier av innovasjon, forskning og utdanning) i Norge, finansiert av EEA Grants og CHAM-Senter for Humaniora. Målet med prosjektet er å skape en database som omfatter navn på sjøpattedyr (hvaler, seler, sjøløver, og sjøkyr), fabeldyr fra tidlig moderne tid, og stedsnavn knyttet til (fangst av) sjøpattedyr på ti forskjellige språk (inkludert gamle uttrykk og navn).
